Carrick Town 3 - 3 Merville 4/9/10
Carrick Town U16 kicked off their new season with a pulsating 3 all draw with Sligo Kingpins Merville, played last Saturday at the Showgrounds. Despite missing a number of key players Carrick had the lion’s share of possession but were unlucky to go into the interval scoreless.
The Carrick lads showed tremendous spirit and determination to recover from conceding two early goals in the second half to level up at two each with goals from the ever energetic Dara Feeley and the midfield dynamo Jack Delacy. Carrick looked to have lost it at the death after conceding a soft goal with two minutes left on the clock, however after a bad mix up in the Merville defence star striker Armando Da Silva was on hand to knock the ball into an empty net.
Remarkably Carrick had a chance to win it at the death after a Dara Feeley marauding run into the box resulted in a foul and a last minute penalty, however Jack Delacy’s penalty and subsequent follow up were well saved by the Merville keeper and we were denied a deserved victory. It was a very positive start to the season and a wonderful team performance. Goalkeeper Brendan Flynn, Adam Armiger, Dara and Jack stood out for the Carrick team but man-of- the match was undoubtedly Allo Bruen who was inspirational in the centre of defence. Training continues next Thursday at 4.30.

Carrick Town 2 - 1 Real Tubber
6/11/10
Carrick Town had a fantastic 2-1 victory over Real Tubber in a cracking league game played in very difficult conditions in Tubbercurry last Saturday morning. Carrick took the lead when the Tubber keeper spilled the ball after good work from Aaron Bonnici, Mick Murtagh and Darren Conlon. Tubber responded with a well worked goal in the second half but captain Dara Feeley scored the winner with a bullet of a strike from fully thirty yards out. This strike was no doubt inspired by the pre match music mix of Michael Buble and Susan Boyle provided by Jack Delacy! It was a tremendous all round team effort but keeper Brendan Flynn was the hero of the day with a number of crucial saves. In defence Daniel Marron and Karl Beckett stood out, Jack Delacy and Matty Mulvey were dominant in midfield while up front Aaron Bonnici was performing very well before he had to leave the match prematurely due to an injury.
This win pushes us well up the table and keeps our charge alive for a top four finish and a place in the latter stages of the competition.

Carrick Town 2- 2 Boyle Celtic
19/11/10
Carrick Town suffered the heartache of conceding a last minute penalty to draw two-all against local rivals Boyle Celtic played in immaculate conditions under floodlights last Friday evening. It was a very disappointing end to a tie which we dominated for long periods but didn’t make the most of our possession and ultimately this cost us dearly at the death. We raced into an early two goal lead with a trademark Dara Feeley goal from just inside the box and a neat finish from Aaron Mc Loughlin. However Boyle came much more into the game and were unlucky not to pull one back but for a superb Brendan Flynn save from the penalty spot. Indeed Brendan was the star performer on show again as he repeatedly kept the home side at bay with a string of fine saves. However Boyle were not to be denied and in the second half they started to boss the midfield area and created chance after chance and were ultimately rewarded by scoring a somewhat fortuitous own goal with 15 minutes to go. The loss of influential centre half Allo Bruen to injury, coupled with the rather harsh sending off of Karl Beckett seemed to upset the Carrick side and Boyle eventually turned their pressure into a deserved equaliser when they were awarded and scored the last minute penalty kick. It was a bitterly disappointing result for the Carrick side but with 5 league games still to play our fate is still very much in our own hands in our pursuit for a top four finish.
Starting Team X1
Brendan Flynn, Daniel Marron, Darren Conlon, Allo Bruen, Karl Beckett, Mick Murtagh, Jack Delacy, Dara Feeley, Matty Mulvey, Aaron Mc Loughlin, Aaron Bonnici.
Subs used, Armando Da Silva, Patrick Doyle

U16 Connacht Shield
Carrick Town FC 4 v 5 Erris United (Belmullet) After Extra time.
Carrick Town exited the Connacht Shield after a dramatic topsy turvy game in the Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon.Carrick made 8 changes from our last game to give our all our large squad some playing time.As happens a team with so many changes Carrick were slow to start and get their usual passing game going.Erris on the other hand started well and looked every bit like a team who had finished 2nd in their league and it wasnt long before they were a goal up..Carrick responded well to going behind and finally started to play like they can and were back on level terms after excellent work from Mick Murtagh set up Cathal McElgunn who finished brilliantly into the corner of the net from the edge of the box…Unfortunately Carrick failed to do some basic defending properly and were 2-1 down at half time…Jack Delacey was introduced at the interval to help get midfield going and Carrick drew level again when a fantastic corner swung in by Eddie Weaver caused confusion and Azad Allakarmi touched it on but the final touch went to an Erris defenfer and the scores were level again but only momentarily as an Erris free kick swung in wasnt dealt with and their talented number 9 scored with a very good finish..Carrick had to come back a third time and they did when some great work by Armando Da Silva saw him round the keeper and finish to leave the scores level at full time.
20 minutes of extra were to follow and the possibility of penalties!!….With neither team wanting to lose such a close contest at this stage the first half of extra time was a tight affair but in the last minute Carricks inability AGAIN to deal with free kick swung in was to prove costly as the ball travelled straight in without a touch from any player..4-3 to Erris Utd…Carrick Coach Paddy Mc Garrys words at half time proved inspirational as straight from the kick off for the 2nd half of extra time Carrick poured foward and equalised for the fourth when Armando Da Silva scored with a fierce drive from the edge of the box..It was great to see the Brazilian on form again after a few quiet games..but alas another free kick out wide was to prove Carricks downfall as the ball swung in again wasnt dealt with properly and Erris finished it to the net to grab a 5-4 victory as this time there was no time for Carrick to respond…Although the manner of some of the goals was disappointing from Carricks point of view there were plenty of positives to take from the game and a lot of the squad players who started will be pushing to keep their place for the next match..All players played well but special mention must go to Mick Murtagh who bossed the midfield and was a constant threat throughout and also to Paul Mc Goldrick who’s intelligent link up play and lay offs for Armando caused Erris no end of trouble and earned him the man of the match award..keep it up Paul!

Carrick Town U16
Carrick Town continued their unbeaten start to the season with a commanding 2 nil victory over Ballygawley, played last Saturday at Seaview Park in Sligo. Carrick got off to a dream start in the second minute with an extraordinary goal, from goalkeeper Benny Flynn. Benny’s long punt out from inside his own box bounced once and looped fortuitously over the stranded Ballygawley keeper and into the empty net. Carrick proceeded to dominate the match and created chance after chance but through a combination of poor finishing and a lack of any luck in front of goal the score remained at one nil entering the final stages of the match. Playing against a stiff breeze in the second half we were always vulnerable to the quick counter attack but thankfully a superb defensive display typified by the outstanding performance from centre half Darren Conlon kept the Ballygawley side at bay. The Carrick nerves were finally eased with 12 minutes remaining when midfielder Jack Delacy crashed another long range strike into the back of the net after great work from Mick Murtagh. It was another great all round team performance, especially as we were missing captain and star midfielder Darragh Feeley. Tougher tests lie ahead in our pursuit of a top four finish and ultimately a crack at winning the league title. Benny was solid as ever in goal, Darren and Matty were best in defence, Jack and Mick were superb in midfield while up front Armando worked tirelessly until he had to be withdrawn through injury.
